My name is Matt Gallagher, and I live in Chicago. I have always been interested in the weather, and weather is extremely important for the two hobbies I've had as an adult: flying and sailing.

I am a graduate of the Penn State Certificate of Achievement in Weather Forecasting program. In 2012-13, I competed in the WXChallenge, a nationwide weather forecasting contest for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and professional forecasters; I finished in the top 10% of forecasters nationwide. I am a member of the American Meteorological Society, it's Chicago chapter, and the National Weather Association.

With two little kids at home, I focus my leisuretime activities on sailing, both cruising with my wife and kids and doing some long-distance racing. My wife and I own a Beneteau 37, Endeavour, based in Belmont Harbor, Chicago. We completed our first Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac in 2011 and our second in 2012. We are active members of the Chicago Yacht Club, where I serve as a Vice Chairman of the Race to Mackinac and on the Board of Directors.

In my day job, I am a lawyer in Chicago. I own my own small firm, Gallagher Niemeyer & Abrams, LLC, practicing real estate law. I also work part-time at CARPLS, Cook County's Legal Aid Hotline. For my professional bio, click here.
